Victor Ludorum maintained his unbeaten record with an impressive display from the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.
Trainer Andre Fabre had saddled four previous winners of the Group One contest – and Victor Ludorum was the 2-1 favorite to receive his name after facile wins at the monitor and Chantilly.
Frankie Dettori made much of their running aboard German challenger Alson, closely chased by the Aidan OBrien-trained Armory, that finished a hat-trick in the Futurity Stakes in August before chasing home the dazzling Pinatubo in last month Stakes.
Dettori had kept a bit aboard Alson up his sleeve and was able to transport Armory at bay, however Victor Ludorum displayed a reversal of gear to quicken in the by both of them.
Jubilant jockey Mickael Barzalona managed to shake the air because he handed the article adding strength for Godolphin to the Vintage hand of next year.
Fabre – who trains Middle Park winner Earthlight in the Godolphin blue – said:I think hes really great, as hes a laid-back horse and has a fantastic attitude. He does all.
The ground was a huge concern, since hes a light mover, but he managed it very well. Race he can everything readily and remains unbeaten. He could be a very good horse.
We shall aim to get a timeless campaign as well as the French Guineas, I would imagine.
He added:He isnt overly big or small, he is a neat horse. Well have talks with Sheikh Mohammed, as he has a bunch of two-year-olds, however I would imagine he will be aimed at the Prix du Jockey Club and the Guineas.
He is much less precocious than Earthlight and is not a natural two-year-old like Earthlight and contains less natural speed than Earthlight, however he would remain further than himfor sure.
OBrien stated of Armory, that was nine seasons supporting Godolphins Charlie Appleby-trained Pinatubo at the National Stakes:He is a beautiful horse whos progressing all of the time. We thought hed be pleased with the measure up to a mile and he appeared to run a race.
In an ideal world we would have preferred greater earth as this kind of good moving horse. They quickened and went a constant gallop, and then we were only caught out for a couple of strides.
The better the ground, the better its, Id have thought, together with him.
