Serena Williams underlined her label as the favorite for the US Open with a brutal quarter-final win over China’s Wang Qiang in 44 minutes.
The 37-year-old American broke serve five times and hit on on 25 winners because she slipped to some triumph
Williams, seeded eighth, is currently chasing a Grand Slam title.
She will face Ukraine’s fifth seed Elina Svitolina, who beat the Johanna Konta of Britain , in the semi-finals.
“When I play somebody who’s playing well I have to step up or move home and I am not ready to move,” said Williams, who earned her 100th singles triumph at the US Open.
“I knew I needed to come out tonight and perform well. I’m feeling great, had and I am still here.
“Tonight I am feeling good and more importantly I am having fun each time that I come out .”
Six-time US Open champion since returning from giving birth to girl Olympia at September 23, Williams has not won a Grand Slam title.
She’s dropped short of moving par with Australian Margaret Court tally finals and last year’s US Open showpiece.
Here she’s moved serenely steamrolling past three at sets – like older rival Maria Sharapova – of her competitors.
American 17-year-old Caty McNally is the only player to have analyzed Williams, attempting to push her illustrious competition around the court in an effort to expose her perceived lack of movement.
And that is going to be the tactic likely to be embraced by Svitolina, whose relentless returning is the signature of her match.
Williams never had this problem against Wang, maintaining the points short with her thunderous functions and booming groundstrokes.
Williams dropped seven points as she raced to a 5-0 lead, before the opener was clinched by the following forehand winner by the American in 23 minutes, Wang avoiding the bagel.
Williams won 26 of those points compared to 11 by her opponent, cracking 12 champions once she landed her first serve, and winning 92 percent of these things.
Wang, who hadn’t dropped a set on her way seemed as she continued to be pummelled by a callous Williams in the second set, completed shell-shocked.
The winners chose to flow in the American’s racquet because she did bagel Wang at the next effort, sealing the shortest triumph of the tournament with another attractive cross-court forehand.
Wang won only four points in the set and finished the game without hitting one winner.
