Bianca Andreescu says she wishes to carve her own legacy in tennis after beating Serena Williams at the US Open final on Saturday.
The teenager upset Williams in her Grand Slam look to win first big with an impressive 6-3 7-5 straight-sets success.
The 19-year-old refused Williams a 24th title, meaning she has now dropped four straight Grand Slam finals since the arrival of her first child in September 2017.
Andreescu, that was not born when Williams won the 1999 US Open, said that although the American has been an inspiration because of her career, she wants to make her own legacy in tennis.
“I am convinced I’m not the only person that has looked up for her. She’s an inspiration for many individuals, not athletes. What she is done off the courtroom, too. She’s really a champion. Above all, she.
“She came up to me in the locker room, she said some really nice items, which I will treasure for a really, really long time,” Andreescu stated concerning the 38-year-old.
“I have actually strived to be like her,” Andreescu responded when asked about the joy of their playing style.
“Who knows? Perhaps I can be better.
“We like to keep the things short with our competitive game style. We love to use our serve to our advantage. I believe we struggle really, really hard.”
“But at exactly the exact identical time, I wish to make a name for myself”
Williams admitted her frustration after losing back-to-back finals on Arthur Ashe but insisted she is not completely fixated on Margaret Court record of 24 titles that were important.
“I’m not necessarily pursuing a listing. I am only trying to win Grand Slams. It’s certainly annoying, you know,” Williams explained.
“I frankly didn’t play my very best today. I might have played much better. That’s the only solace that I can take at this time.
“I really feel like, in 20 decades, I definitely will feel like,’Wow, that was not so bad’.
“It is really hard right now at the minute to, for example, consider this and say,’It did not work out to you today’. It is really hard right now to take that moment in and to say,’You did OK,’ since I don’t think I really did”.
“All of it honestly, really is super frustrating. I am, like, so close, so near, so near, yet so far off.
“I do not know what to say. I guess I’ve got to keep going if I want to be a professional baseball player. And I’ve just got to just keep fighting through it.”
“I believe I might have played much better. I believe I could have done. I believe I might have just been Serena today.
“I honestly don’t think Serena showed up. I must sort of figure out ways to get her to show up at Grand Slam finals.”
