Clive Cox’s Tis Marvellous is looking to bounce back by a luckless Streak in the Beverley Bullet as he Plans the DC Coaching And Development Services Scarbrough Stakes at Doncaster on Wednesday.
Despite going to article as the 2-1 favourite coming home fifth of 10, the five-year-old had travelled into Beverley off the rear of a victory in a heritage handicap at Ascot, with previously finished second at the Wokingham.
“He won quite well at Ascot, then didn’t get the easiest of passages in the Beverley Bullet,” said Cox.
“He’s come back in good form, he’s had a fantastic season so this can be a good opportunity for him”
As he attempts to assert the race that he lost by a head this past 30, el Astronaute will step down to Listed company.
The six-year-old was beaten by International Applause in last year’s contest and has competed with varied success.
In the latter track, the boy of Approve ended second in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes after consecutive wins at the Rockingham Handicap in the Curragh and the Listed Midsummer Sprint at Cork.
Throughout that bout of very good form he outperformed three of his Scarbrough rivals – Duke Of Firenze, Dark Equilateral and Shot.
“We are very happy with him and that he actually likes Doncaster,” explained Quinn.
“He ran really well in the race last year. Tis Marvellous will be the one they’ve got to conquer, his form is quite good.”
Equilateral has not yet been seen since his experience with El Astronaute at the Curragh, in which he completed three and a half lengths behind John Quinn’s gelding and seven lengths behind the winner.
The four-year-old colt was second to Mabs Cross at the Group Three Palace House Stakes at Newmarket, losing out by a mere neck.
Speaking of his Scarbrough entry, coach Charlie Hills stated:”It is the race we have been awaiting.
“Obviously he’s won in the track before, it is a race he must be operating very nicely in.”
Elsewhere in the line-up is your Michael Dods-trained Queens Gift, second to Judicial from the Beverley Bullet plus a two-time winner more than five furlongs this season.
Scott Dixon’s Dark Shot, David Griffiths’ Duke Of Firenze and James Fanshawe’s Archer’s Dream will also be in the mix, with the latter appearing to return to form after his three-race winning streak came to a conclusion when ninth from the Group Three Summer Stakes at York.
