Because he targets the DC Coaching And Development Services Scarbrough Stakes clive Cox’s Tis Marvellous Wants to bounce back from a luckless run in the Beverley Bullet.
Despite heading to post as the 2-1 favorite, coming home fifth of 10, the five-year-old had travelled into Beverley the rear of a rewarding victory in a tradition handicap off at Ascot, with previously finished second in the Wokingham at the Royal meeting.
“He won quite well at Ascot, then didn’t get the simplest of passages in the Beverley Bullet,” explained Cox.
“He has come back in wonderful form, he has had a fantastic season so hopefully this can be a great prospect for him.”
El Astronaute, educated by John Quinn, will step back down to Listed firm as he tries to claim the race this past year, he lost by just a head.
The six-year-old has since competed with success and was beaten by Applause in last year’s competition.
After wins at the Rockingham Handicap at the Curragh and the Listed Midsummer Sprint in Cork, the son of Approve finished second at the Group Two Sapphire Stakes.
Throughout that spell of form he outperformed three of his Scarbrough competitions – Duke Of Firenze, Dark Equilateral and Shot.
“We’re very satisfied with him and he really likes Doncaster,” explained Quinn.
“He ran quite well in the race last year. Tis Marvellous are the one they’ve got to beat, his kind is very great.”
Equilateral has not yet been seen since his encounter with El Astronaute at the Curragh, in which he completed three and a half lengths behind John Quinn’s gelding and seven lengths behind the winner.
The four-year-old colt was second to Mabs Cross at the Group Three Palace House Stakes at Newmarket, losing out by a neck.
Speaking of his Scarbrough entry, coach Charlie Hills stated:”It is the race we have been awaiting.
“Obviously he’s won in the monitor before, it’s a race that he must be running very well in.”
Elsewhere in the line-up is the Michael Dods-trained Queens Donation, next to Judicial from the Beverley Bullet plus a winner within five furlongs this season.
Scott Dixon’s Dark Mirror, David Griffiths’ Duke Of Firenze and James Fanshawe’s Archer’s Fantasy are also in the mix, with the latter looking to return to shape following his three-race winning streak came to an end when ninth in the Group Three Summer Stakes at York.
