Since he targets the DC Training And Development Services Scarbrough Stakes at Doncaster on 33, clive Cox’s Tis Marvellous is looking to bounce back from a run from the Beverley Bullet.
Despite heading to post as the 2-1 favourite coming house fifth of 10, the five-year-old had travelled to Beverley off the back of a lucrative success in a five-furlong tradition handicap at Ascot, with previously finished second at the Wokingham at the Royal meeting.
“He won very well at Ascot, and did not get the simplest of passages at the Beverley Bullet,” explained Cox.
“He’s come back in good form, he has had a good season so hopefully this can be a great opportunity for him”
El Astronaute, educated by John Quinn, will step back down to Listed company as he attempts to claim the race this past year, he lost by a head.
The six-year-old has since competed in company with varied success and was beaten by Applause in last year’s contest.
The boy of Approve then finished second in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes.
During that spell of form he outperformed three of his Scarbrough rivals – Duke Of Firenze, Dark Shot and Equilateral.
“We’re very satisfied with him and that he actually likes Doncaster,” explained Quinn.
“He ran very well in the race last year. Tis Marvellous will be the one they’ve got to conquer, his kind is quite good.”
Equilateral hasn’t been seen since his experience with El Astronaute at the Curragh, where he completed three and a half lengths behind the gelding and seven lengths behind the winner of John Quinn.
The colt was second to Mabs Cross at the Group Three Palace House Stakes at Newmarket, dropping out by a neck.
Talking of the Scarbrough entrance, trainer Charlie Hills stated:”It’s the race we have been awaiting.
“Obviously he has won at the course before, it’s a race he must be operating very nicely in.”
Elsewhere in the line-up is that the Michael Dods-trained Queens Gift, second to Judicial in also a yearlong winner plus the Beverley Bullet within five furlongs this season.
Scott Dixon’s Dark Mirror, David Griffiths’ Duke Of Firenze and James Fanshawe’s Archer’s Fantasy will also be in the combination, with the latter looking to return to form following his three-race winning streak came to an end when ninth in the Group Three Summer Stakes at York.
