Coming home fifth of 10 despite heading into post as the 2-1 favourite, the five-year-old had travelled to Beverley off the back of a rewarding victory in a heritage handicap at Ascot, with finished second at the Wokingham.
“He won well at Ascot, then did not get the simplest of passages in the Beverley Bullet,” said Cox.
“He’s come back in wonderful form, he’s had a good season so this can be a good opportunity for him.”
El Astronaute, trained by John Quinn, will measure back down to Listed company as he tries to assert the race last year that he lost by only a head.
The six-year-old was narrowly beaten by Worldwide Applause in last year’s competition and has since competed in firm with varied success.
In the trail, the boy of Approve finished second at the Group Two Sapphire Stakes after successive wins at the Rockingham Handicap in the Curragh along with the Listed Midsummer Sprint in Cork.
Throughout that spell of shape he outperformed three of his Scarbrough rivals – Duke Of Firenze, Dark Shot and Equilateral.
“We’re very pleased with him and he actually likes Doncaster,” said Quinn.
“He ran very well in the race this past year. Tis Marvellous are the one they have got to conquer, his shape is extremely great.”
Equilateral hasn’t yet been seen since his encounter with El Astronaute at the Curragh, in which he completed three and a half lengths behind seven lengths behind the winner and John Quinn’s gelding.
The colt was second to Mabs Cross at the Group Three Palace House Stakes at Newmarket, missing out with a neck.
Talking of the Scarbrough entry, coach Charlie Hills explained:”It is the race we’ve been waiting for.
“Obviously he’s won in the course before, it’s a race he should be operating very nicely in.”
Elsewhere in the line-up is your Michael Dods-trained Queens Donation, next to Judicial in a winner and the Beverley Bullet more than five furlongs this season.
Scott Dixon’s Dark Mirror, David Griffiths’ Duke Of Firenze and James Fanshawe’s Archer’s Fantasy are also in the combination, together with the latter appearing to come back to shape following his three-race winning streak came to an end when ninth from the Group Three Summer Stakes at York.
