Steven Gerrard admitted he was”surprised and flattered” to hear Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hammering him as his successor.
Klopp, who had been named FIFA men’s coach on Monday, stated he believes Rangers boss Gerrard is.
“If Liverpool had been to sack me then maybe Kenny [Dalglish] are the first decision to replace me, but they would probably fetch Stevie from Glasgow,” Klopp told Four Four Two. “Should you ask who should follow with me, I’d say Stevie. I assist him when I can.”
He expects and hopes that the German would probably be at Anfield for years to come, while Gerrard, who skippered the negative towards the Champions League in 2005 and also left 710 appearances, was grateful for the remarks of Klopp.
“I was amazed and flattered at exactly the same period,” Gerrard said when asked about Klopp’s remarks. “But when you read this quote very carefully, such as I’ve got, it said,’when I get sacked tomorrow’ he believes Steven Gerrard must be the next Liverpool supervisor.
“Jurgen Klopp is not getting sacked tomorrow. I don’t want him to get dismissed tomorrow. He’s doing a wonderful job.
“I am a Liverpool fan. I am certain every Liverpool fan on the planet endorses what I am saying here. We need him bring to our team up to success and to stay for many decades.
“But yeah, it was quite flattering at the exact identical moment.”
Gerrard took over at Ibrox after registering a four-year contract Rangers into a second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership last year.
Rangers reserved their spot in the Betfred Cup.
