Steven Gerrard admitted he was”amazed and flattered” to hear Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hammering him as his successor.
Klopp, who was named the trainer of FIFA men stated he thinks Rangers boss Gerrard is the man who should succeed him if his time at Anfield comes to a conclusion.
“If Liverpool were to sack me tomorrow, then perhaps Kenny [Dalglish] would be the first choice to replace me, but they would probably fetch Stevie down from Glasgow,” Klopp told Four Four Two. “Should you ask who should follow me, I would say Stevie. I assist him when I can.”
While Gerrard, who left 710 looks for Liverpool and skippered the side towards the Champions League in 2005, was grateful for Klopp’s comments, he hopes and expects that the German would probably be at Anfield for several years to come.
“I was amazed and flattered at exactly the same time,” Gerrard said when asked regarding Klopp’s remarks. “However, when you read this quote really carefully, like I have, ” stated,’when I get sacked tomorrow’ he thinks Steven Gerrard should be another Liverpool manager.
“Jurgen Klopp is not getting dismissed tomorrow. I don’t want him to get tomorrow. He is doing a great job.
“I am a Liverpool fan. I am convinced every Liverpool fan on Earth endorses what I am saying here. We need him to remain for many years and deliver to our team as possible as much success.
“But it was very flattering at precisely exactly the same time.”
Gerrard took over at Ibrox in the summer of 2018 after registering a pupil contract Rangers into some second-place finish from the Premiership last year.
Rangers reserved their spot in the Betfred Cup semi-finals with a 1-0 triumph over Livingston on Wednesday.
