Steve Smith has regained top spot from the ICC Test batting rankings after leapfrogging India captain Virat Kohli.
Smith missed the next Ashes Test at Headingley using concussion however has toppled Kohli following the latter listed a duck in the second innings of both the series-sealing 257-run of India over West Indies in Jamaica.
The Australian heads the way with points a spot back on 903 points and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson in place to 878 points.
Smith – who’s scored 144, 142 and 92 in his three innings in this Ashes series – could increase his tally during the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford this week although Kohli is not back in Evaluation action until India sponsor South Africa in October.
Smith became No 1 in December 2015 however Kohli overtook him in August 2018 when Smith was out of action owing to his single-family ban after the scandal.
Four places have risen to seventh, after scoring a century and two fifties in four innings in the 2-0 series triumph over West Indies in the Caribbean.
Jasprit Bumrah and Jason Holder have climbed into the top five of the Test bowling rankings, with Bumrah up from seventh to Holder and third moving from 11th to fourth.
India seamer Bumrah picked up six wickets, such as a hat-trick, in West Indies’ first innings in Jamaica, while 5-77 was bagged by Windies skipper Holder at the opening dig of India.
Australia’s Pat Cummins (908 points) tops the standings, followed by South Africa’a Kagiso Rabada (851) along with Bumrah (835), together with Holder and James Anderson tied for fourth (814).
Holder stays the Major all-rounder, with Vernon Philander, Shakib Al Hasan, Ravindra Jadeja and Ben Stokes rounding out the top five.
