“Stacy will remain with Team USA over the following week and will still be an incredible asset to our team. But when I needed to go for an alternate, I knew Ally will be able to measure up for the battle. She’s got a mind but a spirit. I know she’ll bring her very best to Team USA.”
A psychological Lewis added:”I am extremely disappointed to not be able to playwith. I am a competitor and I want to play , previous week but I had a back injury flare up. I’ve done everything that I could do within the week to be ready to perform .
“For my health along with what I feel is in the best interest of the team, I decided to take out myself. I will take a different role with the group and will do anything I can to help Team USA bring the Cup home”
McDonald had been because the first alternate on standby at Gleneagles, and she will now become the sixth Solheim Cup rookie on the group.
“I didn’t need to create the team this way, however if Juli told me exactly what was happening with Stacy, I was prepared to step right into either role, if this was being here and being part of this encounter or being ready to tee it up,” explained McDonald.
“It was just mentally preparing for either situation. I’m obviously extremely excited to perform with. This is a goal of mine to play this group.”
The late shift is similar to that of Europe from the contest when vice-captain Catriona Matthew had to step into as a player when Suzann Pettersen was ruled out using a back issue.
