While slow play is driving golf lovers to distraction, more players are being watched by followers of a different sport.
Snooker is getting quicker after a crackdown on shot time, new research has revealed.
The number of players to the sport’s global tour with an ordinary shot period of more than 30 seconds has dropped from 12 to four over the last two seasons.
Thai potter Thepchaiya Un-Nooh is quickest at under 17 seconds a shot, but Lee Walker averages his time.
Information was made available on the live scoring site during the 2017-18 year of snooker, displaying most 128 players’ shooter time around the World Snooker Tour.
The season was significantly improved their shot times by Even the 14 players.
As an instance, Joe O’Connor hastened from 33.23 minutes to 27.27 a shot, whereas Mitchell Mann moved from 31.38 into 25.66.
World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn stated:”Two years ago we made a decision to make this average shot-time data publicly accessible, to be able to create this information transparent for the players, officials and fans.
“It has had the desired effect because players don’t want to be next to the bottom of the list, and many recognise that playing fluently actually improves their functionality.”
Governing body has released an updated version of the regulations, which includes a separate rule on time-wasting for the very first time of their sport.
“This helps make it clear to gamers who taking an abnormal quantity of time above a shot can direct firstly to some warning and to reduction of the framework,” said Hearn.
“These steps are helping to eliminate slow play out of our game. The huge majority of players choose to keep the game as we are in the entertainment business going.
“We’re very happy to see the obvious message getting through to the tiny minority that need reminding of those fundamentals.”
Hearn said moderate shot occasions would last to be reviewed, along with the amount of times that players leave the arena in between frames.
“Of coursewe recognise that toilet breaks are necessary, again players should appreciate the significance of maintaining matches moving, particularly live televised games,” added Hearn.
“The frequency of these interludes have to be kept to a minimum and we will be tracking this closely at the current season.”
While Un-Nooh is king of the quickfire players this year , he has a way to go to match the rate of’Rocket’ Ronnie O’Sullivan.
O’Sullivan. Who’s yet to play the tour this season, took five minutes and 20 seconds for a turbo maximum 147 break in 1997- an average of 8.65 minutes a shooter.
