Last year’s Queen Mary winner Signora Cabello has been retired on Saturday at Ayr.
The Camacho filly was beaten on her racecourse debut but then won Bath, before shooting a Listed race at York and going on at Royal Ascot.
She conducted with amazing credit to be next in the Prix Morny into Pretty Pollyanna through a first season, and affirmed that up by winning a Group Two, the Prix Robert Papin.
Unplaced in four states this season, her importance to Phoenix Thoroughbreds, who bought on the eve of her Royal Ascot success into her, can not be overstated – according to Amer Abdulaziz, CEO of her owners.
“She was our very first Royal Ascot winner,” said Abdulaziz.
“It’s no exaggeration to say in the time that outcome was more significant than winning any Derby from the entire world. Everyone watches Royal Ascot, and it set us on the map, especially.
“She’s been an excellent filly to us, and we invite John and his team for all of the brilliant work that they did with her. I’m sure she’ll make an outstanding broodmare, and now we look forward to welcoming her first progeny.”
