Shak Donetsk vs Man City
Champions League Group C
8:00pm Wednesday 18th September
Metalist Stadium
Manchester City bounced back from their shock defeat as their Champions League campaign opened with a 3-0 success at Shakhtar Donetsk.
Pep Guardiola, that utilized Fernandinho as a makeshift centre half in the absence of their wounded John Stones, would have wanted a reply from his side after defeat at Carrow Road and they made the perfect start, taking the lead in the 24th minute during Riyad Mahrez.
Ilkay Gundogan climbed City’s benefit 14 minutes later before Gabriel Jesus ensure that the visitors got back to winning ways in the 76th minute.
Victory sees City been the first winners in this year’s competition. They finish Matchday 1 at 2nd place in Group C on goal difference following Dinamo Zagreb’s 4-0 win over Atalanta.
Manchester City sponsor Watford on Saturday, September 21 at the Premier League; Kick-off 3pm in the Etihad Stadium. City’s next Champions League tie is in the home to Dinamo Zagreb on Matchday 2 on October 2; Kick-off 8pm.
