Steven Gerrard has proposed Ryan Kent may be missing for a few weeks — that could see long-term absentee Jamie Murphy’s recurrence sooner instead of later.
Before coming off with a hamstring injury, kent lasted only 41 moments on his Rangers debut on Saturday.
Murphy was outside since sustaining a knee injury from Kilmarnock last August but Kent’s lack and Jordan Jones’ knee issue have left Rangers short of options out wide ahead.
Gerrard has emphasized the value of managing Brandon Barker attentively afterwards he scored his first goal in the weekend, having substituted Kent before half-time, and he is contemplating bringing back Murphy into the fold in the future.
“What we’ve tried to do here is build a group – not only a team,” he told the club’s official website. “So it’s that realisation that in the event that you’re not in the XI that you need to be ready to come on from the negative, and if you are beyond the squad, be compelling in training to get into the 18.
“That’s what we desire and we believe will bring the best in everybody actually. We endured an accident and endured from an injury to Ryan Kent, so Brandon came on and made.
“We just have to be cautious with Brandon today that we don’t almost think that he will play every game today – we need to handle him in the ideal way too.”
Gerrard added:”It also may allow us push Jamie Murphy forwards somewhat faster to give us another option as we will be without Jordan Jones for probably another three to four months and it appears like Ryan will be a couple of weeks as well, thus we may have to push Jamie somewhat faster.
“I believe he is prepared to be a part of the 18, but I’m not sure he will be prepared to go in and begin games in series.
“He is definitely training well, and I think in the previous week to 10 days, it is possible to see a few of his power coming back, so he’s certainly prepared to contribute, but I’ll need to manage his minutes that suit him and be patient with him too.”
