Steven Gerrard has implied Ryan Kent could be missing for a couple of months — which could observe absentee Jamie Murphy’s return .
Before coming off with a hamstring injury, kent lasted only 41 minutes on his Rangers debut that was next on Saturday.
Murphy was outside since sustaining a knee injury against Kilmarnock last August but Kent’s lack and Jordan Jones’ knee problem have left Rangers short of options out broad before a fixture schedule which begins against Feyenoord.
Gerrard has highlighted the significance of managing Brandon Barker once he scored his first goal in the weekend, using substituted Kent before half-time, and he is currently considering bringing back Murphy into the fold in the future.
“What we’ve attempted to do here is build a team – not just a team,” he told the club’s official website. “So it’s that realisation that if you’re not in the XI that you have to be ready to come on from the side, and if you’re away from the squad, be pushing in training to enter your 18.
“That’s what we want and we think will bring the finest in everyone really. We endured an injury to Ryan Kent and suffered an injury, so Brandon made a donation, which ought to do his confidence the world of good and arrived.
“We only need to be cautious with Brandon today that we do not almost think that he could play every match today – we have to handle him in the right way also.”
Gerrard added:”It also might force us push Jamie Murphy forwards a bit faster to give us another option as we will soon be without Jordan Jones for probably another three to four weeks and it appears like Ryan will be a few weeks as well, so we might have to push Jamie somewhat faster.
“I believe he is ready to be part of the 18, but I am not sure he is going to be ready to go in and begin games in series.
“He’s definitely training quite well, and I think in the previous week to ten days, it is possible to see some of his strength coming back, so he is certainly ready to contribute, but I will have to manage his moments that suit him and be patient with him as well.”
