Andy Ruiz Jr warned Anthony Joshua he needs more than”15 minutes of fame” when they met in a press conference in Saudi Arabia.
The opponents went face to face for the very first time since Joshua was beaten by Ruiz Jr from the nation which will host their rematch, live on Sky Sports Box Office on December 7.
“The desire still remains,” Ruiz Jr said ahead of defending the IBF, WBA and WBO titles he took from Joshua.
“I really don’t want 15 minutes of popularity. I want it to last.
“Two major heavyweights punching each other in the face, it’s going to be exciting.
“I know Anthony Joshua is arriving hard, he is coming strong. He’s preparing hard, but so am I.
“There’s a whole lot of duties. I’m going to try my very best. I’m going to keep those belts and I’m likely to get them back.
“I’m likely to triumph here in precisely the exact same manner which I won on June 1.”
Four occasions were floored and beaten by Ruiz Jr on his US debut in seven torrid rounds in New York.
The surprise result ended Joshua’s unbeaten record, his world title reign and his hope.
He said on AJ: The Untold Truth that he lost because of a”lucky punch – a punch sent by the Gods”.
Joshua also stated”he ai not that skillful” concerning the Mexican-American who beat him.
In Wednesday’s press conference at Saudi Arabia, Joshua included:”I was up against a good challenger. Andy is winner now.
“That will last until December 7 if he puts his names in the air. Two warriors to proceed the best man and war will walk out victorious.
“Being a winner is over the straps. It is really all about a championship mentality. The belts will go up in the air and we are going to fight for them .”
Ruiz Jr’s trainer Manny Robles stated:”It’s time to flip the page. Dreams do come true, but today it’s true.
“It is time to go to work. I can promise that the fans that Andy is going to be ready. He’ll be all set for the challenge.
“There will be changes. Obviously we will be more time to prepare that time around.
“You will expect a better Andy Ruiz. Faster, thinner, stronger.”
Joshua and Ruiz will meet in New York on Thursday and around Friday at London.
