As he wants to close in on Roger Federer’s Grand Slam record, rafael Nadal is taking nothing for Matteo Berrettini.
A fourth US Open title which would transfer him to within one important win of matching Federer’s tally of 20 is being chased by nadal.
The area looks evident for Nadal since the just one of those’three’ still standing at Flushing Meadows after the shock exits of Federer and defending winner Novak Djokovic.
However, if Nadal needed a reminder it won’t be all plain sailing at New York if he faces Berrettini, ” the seed that was Italian, for a place in the final from Daniil Medvedev or Grigor Dimitrov, then he’s obtained one.
Nadal has never played with after arriving through five gruelling sets against Gael Monfils the 23-year-old, who reached his first Grand Slam semi-final.
The Spaniard said:”He’s having a great year. He’s at the semi-finals, winning a great deal of good matches. From the semi-finals of a Grand Slam match you can’t expect an opponent. You can not expect a simple match.
“I really believe that in the event you would like to win championships, you will need to go through tough opponents like I’d against Marin (Cilic) and against Diego (Schwartzman).
“He was playing good the entire event, and another participant is playing good. He’s serving huge, large forehands, moving well, and enormous confidence since he’s having a fantastic year.”
Berrettini was only nine when he first became aware watching his epic poem win.
“They have been showing the game to the TV at no cost, but it was, like, a station that was roughly animations,” he recalled. “I was young. These guys, I suggest, six hours. Come on! I would like to catch my cartoons.”
Dimitrov and Medvedev meet from the first semi-final, a match-up not many could have tipped in the face.
Injuries have observed Bulgarian Dimitrov, a former world , slide to 78 in eight attempts – all the more unexpected, making his triumph over Federer – his first from the positions.
“It was that low that I do not even need to go there some longer,” he said of a miserable year.
“It was clearly harm, losing points, ranking. That is the point of any player. The six, seven weeks have been rough for me. But I had someone to lean on, my friends, my family.
“The next thing you know, you’re nearly end of the calendar year, you have a result similar to that. It’s pretty unique to me”
