Notre Dame (9) vs Louisville
Monday, September 2 nd, 8:00 PM at Cardinal Stadium
Swinging Johnson: This week Doug Upstone and that I will detract from our regularly scheduled plan of NFL discussion to dip our toes into uncharted waters and then also render our college football picks on the Monday night match between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Louisville Cardinals.
It will almost certainly be the first and only time this season we do so, as the last week of display NFL soccer is somewhat lackluster in comparison to a regular-season sport of NCAA football featuring one of the greatest teams in the nation, and a mythical soccer program to boot up, Notre Dame.
Without further ado, let us begin the debate after my friend Doug Upstone got the better of me last week while the Titans were endorsed by me. We have been swapping wins forth and back so it looks like its my turn for the golden wreath, as I heartily endorse the Irish and will accompany all the squares putting the thick lumber on a public street favorite.
After reviewing the college football odds nearly six days prior to the Monday night affair, I see the lineup has spiked a half-point about the preferred, starting at Notre Dame -19 1/2 to where its currently offered at a solid -20 round the board at all of the best internet sportsbooks.
I love the Irish but youre currently leaning in this season-opening battle onto the Cardinals. Besides the venue, why do you believe Louisville could hang with the boys from South Bend?
Doug Upstone: Yes, Swinger, IMO and at least a successful triumph, it said a great deal about the Steelers and Titans direction. Lets proceed to soccer, where the games rely and will our recordings with this one.
Recall those Thursday night games Louisville utilized to perform against big-name competitions? They held their own and engineered upsets. These were fun games to see and the Cardinals were a thrilling golf club.
But for example the former Papa Johns Stadium as well as its counterfeit (in real life) proprietor, Louisville football last season was worse than the usual three-day-old pizza.
Scott Satterfield are out to change the civilization and win games and worked miracles at Appalachian State. This wont happen right away as the ability level is down from theVille. However , this is a moment for Louisville, a group which has the chance to begin taking steps.
Ive read in which the Cards coaches have sped up the slow mechanics of QB Jawon Pass (great name for a QB) and I enjoy Hassan Hall since the direct running back. Than having a ticket for the Colts at OVER 9 for season wins the defense that makes me more worried. You have up your Irish please dont forget.
Swinging Johnson: The Cardinals wont be doing since the Notre Dame defense will keep them comfortable in their nest flying in this match. Scott Satterfield is currently in the big leagues and he has a team coming from a dismal album where they went winless last year. This rebuild is comparable to carrying a hot air balloon and seeking to turn it in an F-22 Raptor.
While that may eventually occur, the problem is that Louisville is confronting a team which made it to the CFP this past year and owned one of the stingiest defenses in all of college football, surrendering just 17.2 points over the normal season and going a perfect 12-0 until they fulfilled Clemson in the CFP semifinals. The offense clicked on all cylinders as well, averaging 33 points per match over.
My query is, how will be a quarterback like traveling who is slow to release, designed to get some traction against a swarming defense? Particularly when hes working with a new coach and an offensive scheme that is entirely new?
Please, Doug, save me I am lost! I see no way, shape or form where Louisville is going to be able to keep pace with the Golden Domers and Im desperate to your ancestral wisdom and prodigious handicapping experience!
Doug Upstone: Well, Swinger, Im happy to see in your last sentence youre coming on to the bright side of sport gambling, or you are simply being the same wise a** you are. I will allow the SBR readers that are currently making this is decided on by college football picks. I am the first to understand Louisville was, however 1-11 ATS and fully pumped last season.
Like he gave up on the Atlanta Falcons However, coach Bobby Petrino was given up on by that team COMPLETELY. A new mindset is brought by A coach on making a statement, and this being a match, his team will be sold by Satterfield. Louisville does have to hope never and the Irish will take them have much fight.
Lets also think about, Brian Kelly with all the blue and gold is just 10-13-1 ATS as a road favorite, and when dishing out 20 or more digits, a mere 7-9-1 ATS. That defense you mentioned might improve as the year progresses but replacing five starters, even if you dont/cant amuse like Bama or Clemson, it will take some time.
Swinging Johnson: Well Doug, I was a bit facetious because although you have an impressive handicapping restart, then you miss the mark from time to time. And in this case, you happen to be shooting, since Louisville could be greater compared to last year but Id submit that they are trained with a Rhesus monkey and enhance upon their deplorable album rendered by an equally awkward trainer like Petrino.
I know that placing nearly 3 touchdowns on the street would be square biz for certain along with Joe Q. Public never got rich by gambling the heavy street chalk, but at times the people is correct, and in this instance they surely are. Until next week when we get back on our NFL Game of the Week, lets see what happens on Monday night when the Irish come prepared to squint at Louisville.
Free College Football Pick: Swinging Johnson — Notre Dame -20 (-110)
