West Bromwich Albion remained top of the Championship table after a late Hal Robson-Kanu winner in Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough had the choice of the chances in an uneventful first half of George Saville seeing his effort.
However, Robson-Kanu was on hand to place the league leaders at front, tapping the ball at the back post following a goalmouth scramble.
Along with also the Baggies held on to move two points clear of second-placed Leeds.
West Brom had gone to the break near the top of the Championship to conquer Cardiff 4-2 at The Hawthorns.
But they were disjointed using Middlesbrough almost opening the scoring at the conclusion of a cagey first half, as Sam Johnstone saved Britt Assombalongas header along with Bartley rid Savilles rally off the lineup.
At the opposite end, Matheus Pereira attempted a spectacular but Darren Randolph was equivalent to it before Johnstone parried a campaign from Jonny Howson as either side enhanced at the beginning of the second half.
Boro had a golden opportunity to open the scoring 15 minutes out of time, above following the cutback of Ashley Fletcher, but the ball crushed.
And it was West Brom that the left with all three points thanks to Robson-Kanu, while Boro dropped to 21st.
Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate told BBC Tees:
We created numerous chances, which we need to choose. That is what it is all about, creating chances and placing the ball in the back of the web and we did not do that
They dominated possession but we went toe to toe with a group thatll probably go up – theyve got some great players but I thought we played extremely well. If we make chances like that and play like that, well be OK.
I cant recall a real rescue that Darren Randolph had to create in the match. I thought we deserved to win the game, we ran them all the way which was a functionality miles greater than the execution against Birmingham.
West Brom manager Slaven Bilic stated:
It is pressure up there. It is a pressure that is positive. The more you win that increases the strain and the more closer you will be on the tables peak.
Middlesbrough are not confident and exactly what they want is two or three wins. Theyre battling hard and they gave us a game. They will take action, if they continue then theyll be from trouble very shortly and I dont have any doubt.
Make no mistake, we knew what kind of match we anticipated and it was the only we did not want. Were prepared for that.
They defended numbers but using increased quality and quantity of strikes, then sooner or later you may get excellent chances. That is just what happened
