A row has sparked on social networking involving the former England striker along with Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer.
Among the cutting lines from the publication includes Owen’s claim that his move from Real Madrid into the Magpies at 2005 was a”downward step” and the 1 move he”really regrets”.
The pair exchanged barbed tweets since the story broke on Tuesday – but what is the history of the feud?
In Reboot – My Life, My Time, which is being serialised in the Daily Mirror, Owen also goes into detail about his relationship with Newcastle’s fans through an injury-hit bout with the team, which finished with him joining Manchester United following the Magpies’ relegation to the Championship in 2009.
“I ought to have followed my gut instincts, I did not wish to move there – my heart was set on a return to Liverpool,” explained Owen – who’d left Anfield for Real in 2004 – of his move to St James’ Park.
The 39-year-old former England captain claimed Newcastle were”only a huge club in the sense it has a lot of fans and a huge stadium”. Ouch.
Match of the Day pundit Shearer, the Magpies’ album goalscorer, responded on networking.
Tweeting a clip of Owen telling BT Sport in 2018 that he”could not wait to retire for the final six or seven decades” of his career, Shearer submitted:”Yes, Michael, we believed that too, whilst on 120K a week.”

That retort got people talking, but where did this bad blood begin?
The relegation at 2009 of newcastle seems to function as the catalyst to get the pair relationship, based on Owen’s book.
Shearer was supervisor at the time also, heading into the last day of the summer season, the Magpies needed at least a draw at Aston Villa or their spell in the Premier League would come to a finish.
Owen claims he was not fully fit however, together with Villa 1-0 up during Damien Duff purpose, the striker arrived as a replacement in the 66th minute.

He then proceeds to explain he’d been part of an extensive interview using BT Sport at 2018 where he had touched upon his adventures with injury in his career and has been taken aback by the way Shearer had”started sniping about it upon Twitter”.
Owen claims he had a text conversation with Shearer following this tweet in which he offered an explanation after Shearer had stated Newcastle fans would be”unimpressed to hear he didn’t delight in playing there”.
“It moved as I suspected, precisely nowhere,” he further added.
As the spat continuing, gary Lineker, who hosts Match of the Day as well as operating on BT Sport with Owen , later acted as peacemaker.
“There seems to be a little background ? I like you both so don’t need to choose sides,” that he also tweeted.
