Aldo Costa, among the leading figures behind Mercedes’ success, will depart the team, it’s been declared.
Costa, who had been engineering manager this season, moving into a technical function, will leave the world champions to combine maker Dallara.
“Since stepping back in my role as engineering director, I’ve enjoyed encouraging the team in this season and have also been searching for my second challenge beyond Formula 1,” he explained.
“After several years working at the pinnacle of our sport, I’m eager to be able to contribute some of what I have discovered to some other racing series and to high-performance automotive projects outside rushing.
“Among my personal passions is to mentor and develop young talent, and it will be a focal point for me personally to help attract and develop the upcoming generations of engineering ability at Dallara in the years ahead.”
Costa became technical director of the team before leaving for Ferrari seven years after and joined minnows Minardi at 1988.
He spent 16 years in Italy, also has been among the architects behind the dominatio, as well as chief designer throughout the Raikkonen 2007 name victory of Kimi.
The 58-year-old left Ferrari from 2011 to join Mercedes as engineering director, and has added the following 10 world championships (five motorists’ and five constructors’) to his honours, such as four names such as Britain’s Lewis Hamilton.

Dallara have a motorsport heritage that is wealthy, and are involved with the building of automobiles in Formula Three, Formula 2 and IndyCar. Costa will start work about them.
