Aldo Costa, one of the main characters behind Mercedes’ success, will abandon the group, it’s been declared.
Costa, who was engineering director this year, moving to some technical advisory role, will depart the entire world champions at the end of September to join manufacturer Dallara.
“Since stepping back from my job as engineering manager, I have enjoyed encouraging the team during this season and have also been looking for my second challenge beyond Formula 1,” he explained.
“After many years working at the pinnacle of the sport, I’m excited to have the ability to contribute some of what I have learned to some other racing series and to high-tech jobs outside racing.
“Among my personal passions would be to mentor and develop young talent, and it will be a focus for me personally to help attract and develop the upcoming generations of engineering ability at Dallara in the years ahead.”
Costa united minnows Minardi in 1988 and became technical manager of the group before departing for Ferrari seven decades after.
He also spent 16 years in Italy, also has been one of the major architects behind the Schumacher-Ferrari dominatio, in addition to being chief designer throughout Kimi’s Raikkonen 2007 name success.
The 58-year-old abandoned Ferrari in 2011 to combine Mercedes as technology director, and has included the following 10 world championships (five motorists’ and five constructors’) into his honours, including four titles such as Britain’s Lewis Hamilton.

Dallara possess a motorsport legacy that is wealthy, and are currently involved with the building of automobiles from Formula Three, Formula Two and IndyCar. Costa will begin work for them.
