Aldo Costa, one of the leading figures behind Mercedes’ recent success, will leave the group, it has been announced.
Costa, who had been technology director moving into a technical role this year, will depart the entire world champions to combine Italian maker Dallara.
“Since stepping back from my role as engineering manager, I’ve enjoyed encouraging the team in this year and also have been searching for my next challenge beyond Formula 1,” he explained.
“After several years working at the pinnacle of our sport, I’m excited to be able to donate some of what I’ve discovered to other racing series and to high-tech jobs outside hurrying.
“One of my personal passions is to mentor and develop young talent, and it’s going to be a focal point for me personally to help attract and develop the upcoming generations of engineering ability at Dallara in years ahead.”
Costa became technical manager of this team before leaving for Ferrari and united minnows Minardi at 1988.
He spent 16 years in Italy, also was among the architects behind the dominatio, as well as being designer throughout the Raikkonen 2007 title victory of Kimi.
The 58-year-old abandoned Ferrari from 2011 to join Mercedes as engineering director, also has included yet another 10 world championships (five drivers’ along with five constructors’) to his honours, including four titles for Britain’s Lewis Hamilton.

Dallara have a motorsport heritage, and are involved with the construction of automobiles in Formula Two IndyCar and Formula Three. Costa will start work for them.
