(CNN) — Newly appointed Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri has been diagnosed with pneumonia and is more most very likely to miss the Serie A champion’s opening match of the season.
The 60-year-old Italian suffered from the flu but Juventus confirmed that his condition was more severe.
Sarri was at Juventus’ instruction center on Monday however, his illness meant he’d no role in the surgeries of the day.
“Unfortunately he could not run the training on the area due to the persistent flu, which struck him over the span of the past week,” a club statement said on Monday. “From the late afternoonhe underwent further tests which confirmed he has schizophrenia, for which therapy was prescribed.”
Sarri received treatment prior to the traditional preseason tune-up against the youth team of the club last Wednesday. His condition did not improve and that he was not able to attend to the friendly win over Serie C costume Triestina on Saturday.

Sarri confessed to smoking 60 cigarettes per day. “I don’t especially feel the need to smoke games,” he told Football Italia. “But directly afterwards it is in fact necessary.”
Juventus, pursuing a consecutive league name that is domestic, kicks off its effort in Parma on Saturday but may be without its new supervisor who replaced fellow Italian Max Allegri within the summer.
Sarri returned after a single season in England to Italy at which Chelsea was led by him to third in the Premier League and raised the Europa League after defeating Arsenal 4-1 at Baku.
Regardless of the impressive debut year in England, Sarri was lured back to his homeland where he managed in 2018 having taken his native Napoli. He was substituted at Stamford Bridge by former Blues midfielder Frank Lampard.
