Lincoln City have made Newport boss Michael Flynn and Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth their top targets to substitute Danny Cowley, Sky Sports News knows.
Flynn talked to the hierarchy of Lincoln over the weekend concerning the vacancy and he fits the criteria specified by the chairman Clive Nates, who is over from South Africa to oversee the recruitment process of the club.
Nates is eager to create a youthful, ambitious manager in the same mold as Cowley.
He has reiterated his devotion to his existing side although It’s understood Lincoln also made contact Ainsworth.
In an overview on Wycombe’s site last night he said:”We’ve enjoyed a really powerful start to the season and it’s always flattering to visit us staff, players and the club as a whole – talked about in substantial respect.
“However, it is important that the focus is always on ourselves and what we do as a team to ensure things continue to proceed in the ideal direction”
There is one other unnamed manager on Lincoln’s shortlist.
League Two leaders Exeter published a statement on Monday saying they had had a request from an club to talk to their manager Matt Taylor but the petition resigned.
Supervisors Andy Warrington along with Jamie McCombe will again take charge of Lincoln for Tuesday’s League One game against Rochdale.
