Lincoln City have made Wycombe director Gareth Ainsworth and Newport boss Michael Flynn their top targets Sky Sports News knows.
Flynn talked over the weekend about the vacancy to Lincoln’s hierarchy and he matches the criteria determined by the chairman Clive Nates, who’s over from South Africa to oversee the recruiting procedure of the club.
Nates is keen to create a young manager.
He has since reiterated his commitment although it is known Lincoln made contact Ainsworth.
In an announcement on Wycombe’s site last night he said:”We have enjoyed a really powerful start to the season and it is always flattering to see us – staff, players and the team as a whole – talked about in substantial respect.
“But it’s essential that the attention is always on ourselves and what we do as a team to ensure things continue to proceed in the ideal direction”
There is one other manager on the shortlist of Lincoln.
League Two leaders Exeter published a statement on Monday saying they’d had a request from an club to talk to their supervisor Matt Taylor but he turned the request down.
Managers Andy Warrington along with Jamie McCombe will take charge of Lincoln for Tuesday’s League One game against Rochdale.
