Lincoln City have made Newport boss Michael Flynn and Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth their targets Sky Sports News understands.
Flynn talked to Lincoln’s hierarchy and he matches the standards decided by the club’s chairman Clive Nates, who’s over from South Africa to oversee the recruiting procedure.
Nates is eager to appoint a youthful director in the same mould as Cowley.
It’s understood Lincoln also made contact however he has reiterated his commitment to his side.
In an announcement on Wycombe’s website last night that he said:”We have enjoyed a very strong start to the season and it’s always flattering to visit us – staff, players and the club as a complete – spoke about in high regard.
“But it’s essential that the focus is always on ourselves and what we do as a team to make sure things continue to proceed in the perfect direction”
There is one other manager on the shortlist of Lincoln.
League Two leaders Exeter published a statement saying they had had a petition from an undercover club to talk to their supervisor Matt Taylor but the request resigned.
Caretaker supervisors Andy Warrington and Jamie McCombe will take control of Lincoln.
