Charlie Fellowes warns conditions have to be acceptable for King Ottokar if he is to take his luck in the bet365 Cambridgeshire Handicap at Newmarket.
The Newmarket handler is keen to conduct the three-year-old from the esteemed occasion after deciding against sending him at ParisLongchamp
While the trip and rushing in a huge field will present a struggle on Saturday it is one Fellowes.
Fellowes said:”King Ottokar isn’t likely to run in France since he had a tiny terrible scope around three weeks ago – which just put us on the back foot to the French race.
“The Cambridgeshire is very far under consideration, however I’d want a bit of rain to drop to run in it.
“I believe that the one-mile-one is totally fine, particularly if it came up soft, and a major field would not be a problem because the tougher they move, the better it might be to him – so there’s plenty to like about the race”
States about the Rowley Mile maybe not be acceptable for both King Ottokar, Fellowes has drawn a backup program up on the distance and course.
He added:”When we don’t go there, the backup alternative is the Darley Stakes – that is a Group Three on the identical trip in October.
“When the ground is too quick there then that may be it for the season, because that is all there is about left for him.”
Fellowes is convinced that there is more to come back Though King Ottokar has just one victory at a conditions race at Newbury to his name this year.
He added:”He’s had a very unfortunate year – since when you look at the field he overcome at Newbury, I do not know how he has not won a Group race.
“We tried to pursue the Derby fantasy and ran him too far sooner in the season – then he was unfortunate at Salisbury time, just being in the wrong location.
“He’s a child, and next season is going to be his best ”
