The Jack McCaffrey of Preventing Dublin is critical to Kerry’s chances at the final replay, according to star Paddy O’Rourke.
The Kingdom managed to nullify many of the Sky Blues’ main threats since Con O’Callaghan, Brian Fenton and Paul Mannion were held silent. However, Clontarf man McCaffrey conducted riot from play.
O’Rourke feels that it’s not as straightforward as Kerry assigning 1 marker to keep tabs.
“I don’t think that they have one person that will go together with him (McCaffrey) for 70 minutes,” opined O’Rourke on the AIB GAA Podcast.
“If you take a look at his scores at the second half, then Paul Murphy fell back in the front of this full-back lineup for Kerry. Dublin said’Jack, push up on him so he’s not liberated’ and he also scored two things – one with left and one . Kerry might have to mix it – they need lads on the playground that are quick-thinking, that are going to go with him.
“Lads will have to tactically filthy, as they state, to suppress his sway. The goal came out of him not 1 man crossing his run and shooting off, placing a hand along his torso, pulling on his jersey – just doing the dark arts that you’d expect for a team. There will have to become a frequent bond there across the half-back lineup, midfield and half-forwards, to carry it in turns to go with him frustrate him and stop him getting at the conclusion of those moves.”
Star Colm Cooper disagreed, indicating 1 player must be committed by Keane with following McCaffrey’s focus, to the endeavor.
The numerical disadvantage of dublin may have suited the flying wing-back from the drawn game.
“About Jack McCaffrey, I think Dublin going down to 14 men satisfied McCaffrey since the Kerry guys were puzzled and handed him on saying’you pick him up’ and it took away the accountability and responsibility of both men – and you can’t do that using Jack McCaffrey,” explained Cooper.
“He’s in a league of his own regarding the way he strikes.
Cooper added:”What I’d like Kerry and Peter Keane to do would be, whoever is picking Jack McCaffrey, your attention is solely on himand do not be concerned about what’s going on around you.
“Last day. . .Jack McCaffrey spent the majority of his time working and was running onto matters and the Kerry men weren’t sure who had been to pick up him That’s not good enough by a Kerry point of view and Peter will perform a lot of work on that.
“Can Stephen O’Brien pick him up? Can someone else? We do not know but I’d be amazed if Jack has exactly the identical effect as the previous moment.”
