Soccer Saturday legend Jeff Stelling embarked on His Own 100-mile March to Boost money and awareness to Prostate Cancer UK.
Jeff will participate in four marathons, in several countries – beginning in Glasgow on Thursday, prior to finishing in London on Sunday and traveling to Belfast, Cardiff.
Thursday’s course took Jeff from the Scottish stadium Hampden Park to the grounds of Rangers, Celtic and Hamilton Academical.
Before he began his effort, Jeff told Sky Sports News:”We’re trying to raise awareness of a disease which kills a person every 45 minutes, each half of a football game. Prostate cancer wills contract at some stage in our lives, which is a figure.
“Men are hesitant to go to their GP about whatever and when it’s to do with anything under the waist they are not going anywhere close to it. It is an attitude that change and we have got to try.
“We’ve done 25 marathons before to try and change this mindset and I think it’s working. Folks have been very generous and they have contributed #800,000 over the previous couple of years and we’re expecting to get past the #1m this year.”
On the road, Stelling hopes to be joined by a lot of his friends over the footballing globe and he put off to the leg with David Moyes and Malky Mackay, together with Charlie Nicholas joining at Celtic Park.
Nicholas was meant to join in the last stop, Ibrox, but he was not surprised avoided his former club’s house the competitions of Celtic.
He explained:”Can you expect him to become at Ibrox? Chicken Charlie – that’s what we call him.
“He’s in London along with his flight was delayed so he is attempting to get here as soon as he possibly could. We’re told surprisethat it will most likely be sometime shortly after we’ve left Ibrox.”
When he visits Cliftonville Crusaders, Glentoran and Linfield at Northern Ireland, stelling will continue his trip on Friday.
