In his most recent BBC Sport column, Jamie Murray discusses his upcoming US Open mixed doubles final and playing Premier League fantasy football helps pass time .
The US Open was a championship for me in years and I am hoping I can win another trophy when I play Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the mixed doubles final on Saturday.
Bethanie and I won the competition here which meant after winning it together with Martina Hingis 2 years ago that I defended the title.
Later we reached the final at 2015 I also won the men’s doubles.
So I’ve had some decent success here and means I am searching to win a prize for the fourth consecutive season when Bethanie and that I play with Chan Hao-ching and Michael Venus, who are the top seeds, at the closing.
I enjoy the conditions at Flushing Meadows, it suits my game and I have had some terrific partners on the way.
Generally I like playing in North America – I enjoy the championships, I enjoy the states, I enjoy the audiences – therefore I feel when I come to New York for the final Slam of the year, like I am always in good shape.
I struggled a bit in the first three tournaments of the North American swing – in Washington, Montreal and Cincinnati – because we played with unique balls.
They have been a whole lot more heavy than that which we generally play , that caught me and that I was struggling just a little bit and not feeling good in my game.
But I moved to Winston Salem where they started to feel much better and perform with the very exact chunks as here.
Neal Skupski and I had a really good championship in the men’s doubles , although we lost a against Colombian top seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal along with Robert Farah.
We played five great games to arrive there and beat some good teams along the way.
It was frustrating to lose in such a huge match with nice margins and miss out playing our very first tour-level final together, especially because there were no breaks of serve and not many split points, however there are a good deal of advantages to take in our partnership from the championship as a whole.
There has been lots of tennis approximately, with the two Neal and Bethanie, so today it’d be wonderful to complete the Grand Slam year with another trophy.
Bethanie is fun and we have a fantastic chemistry on courtroom. She’s a player that is intelligent, includes a great deal of abilities and is quite creative, plus she is feisty, has stuck in and doesn’t return.
We have the advantage in New York of the being a home player, therefore we’ve had support in each of the games we have played here in the past few years.
She is a player, which you can see together with the number also have selfies when she’s walking round the website and of people wanting to speak to her, and she’s got a fantastic following.
It makes a good feeling if we play another big courtroom in the final, in the court, which should be.
When you are doing in either the men’s and also the combined, it can be hard to juggle them although it’s a excellent problem to have!
The schedule can allow it to be frustrating because there have been a few times where I’ve played men’s and I’m waiting five or four hours. It is only dead time.
You’re hanging around waiting to play, wanting to get on court and you end up regaining energy.
It is not easy, because you know you have got to go and compete, and know you have got to come back the next moment, and play. It plays in your mind a little.
You just need to wait, you’re trying to kill time. There’s nothing to do that’s kind of ordinary.
One thing which often keeps me entertained is fantasy football and because there’s so much dead time there’s no excuse for team choice deadlines and transfer.
So I’ve really had nothing to do, However, this week will be that the international break. When there are no Premier League fixtures in the weekend, it is always disappointing.
There are 20 of us across two groups in our match, I am in the division and my brother Andy is at the top branch.
It is mostly tennis individuals and friends close to us in our circle, our dad is from the league a few guys that work with Andy, Colin Fleming. It’s great fun.
I’m a Manchester United fan, and so I signed Daniel James weekend – he’s been scoring a few – and that I have Marcus Rashford.
We do a draft so I was straight out of 10 selections, therefore I could not catch a Harry Kane or a Mohamed Salah or one of the top men at the start.
I wouldn’t say I am fantastic, although I set a lot of focus on attempting to find clean sheets using random teams.
United haven’t been doing in recent years so that I have not been faithful to choosing at their players – there’s a lot at stake.
We don’t have a trophy at the close of the season, it is only bragging rights – .
