A section of the Inter Milan ultras team’Curva Nord’ have insisted the monkey chants directed at Romelu Lukaku by Cagliari lovers weren’t meant to be racist.
Lukaku, who signed up in Manchester United last month, demanded prompt action by the Italian football authorities after he was mistreated during Sunday’s 2-1 triumph.
A team known as’L’Urlo Della Nord’ state Lukaku”must understand” that – from Italy – lovers have”ways simply to help our teams and also to attempt to produce competitions nervous” – and they do not believe them to be racist.
In an announcement on Facebook, the team said:”Hi Romelu, we’re writing you on behalf of Curva Nord, yes the men who welcomed you at your birth in Milan. We are very sorry you thought was still racist.
“You’ve got to know that Italy isn’t like many other north European countries where racism is a real issue. It is not like that although we understand that it might have appeared shameful for you.
“In Italy we utilize some”ways” just to”help our crews” and to attempt to create our opponents stressed, maybe not for racism but also to jumble them up.
“We are a multi-ethnic buffs business and we’ve consistently welcomed players from anyplace. However, we have consistently used that’manner’ with different teams’ players and we likely will in the future.
“We aren’t racist and so aren’t the Cagliari fans”
The statement went on to assert that the struggle against racism should not start in football stadiums but in universities, and that fans act otherwise in stadiums than in the world.
On Tuesday, the league’s disciplinary judge claims he had more evidence before deciding if Cagliari should be punished for the chants, that judge Gerardo Mastrandrea did not refer to “racist” in his weekly report.
