What Can Fractional Formats Mean, & American, Decimal?
The numbers you see next to lines are called chances. The chances, displayed in American, Decimal, or even Fractional formats, serve two functions:
They indicate the implied probability of the outcome it is attached to.
They indicate how much money you’ll win if you bet on this specific event.
We have to be cautious with the probability though: bookmaker probabilities are affected by where money is moving, and the amount of the probabilities of a single event will always exceed 100 percent.
Bookmaker probabilities tell you how much they’re charging to take your bet. You may also hear this called”the juice” or”cut” or”vig(orish).”
American Odds Explained
When you see -150, +230, or some other three-digit number using a +/- in front of it, you are staring at American gambling odds.
What Exactly Does the + and — Participate in Sports Betting?
The + and — on a sports betting line indicates both your potential payout and whether you’re betting on the favorite or the underdog.
If the number is a -, it signifies the favorite on the betting line. The negative amount indicates how much you would need to wager to win $100.
If the number is a +, then you’re taking a look at the underdog, and the number refers to the sum of money you’ll win if you wager $100.
