Mo Farah has won the men’s elite race in the Great North Run to get a record sixth year.
Four-time Olympic winner Farah, 36, was pushed hard by Tamirat Tola, but proved too strong in the final mile to get the Ethiopian to complete the 13.1-mile half marathon course in 59 minutes and six seconds.
With Britain’s Callum Hawkins coming home fourth in one hour and 39 minutes, seven seconds behind Farah, tola, grabbed the line 42 minutes ahead of the third-placed Abdi Nageeye of Holland.
At which he will look to improve his very own record farah’s next race is going to be the Chicago marathon on October 13.
From the women’s elite race, a new class record was establish by the Brigid Kosgei of Kenya and with it broke the world half marathon record by finishing in a time of one hour four minutes and 28 minutes.
Britain’s Charlotte Purdue has been fourth, in the quickest time ever set by a female British athlete with one houreight minutes and 10 minutes.
