The end of the MLB season is close and the playoff drive is not or now.
For the here and now, but let’s see whether we can get our week started on the right note and take a peek at the MLB slate of tonight!
P — Jose Berrios (MIN) — $8,500 vs. CWS
To me, the matchups on the slate are Jose Berrios at home against the White Sox and Robbie Ray at home against the Marlins. With that in mind, a quick view of Ray’s game titles reveals some severe inability to receive deep into games of late, none more apparent than his final outing in which he allowed five earned runs in two thirds of an inning against the Mets. The Marlins don’t strikeout much against lefties as they perform righties, so I will go with Berrios and his strikeout upside from this White Sox club. Surehis 8.60 K/9 on the season is not anything to write home about, and that number actually drops to 8.25 in your home. However, Berrios requires on a White Sox club which sports a 26.1% strikeout rate against right-wing pitching this year, tied for the second-highest strikeout speed versus righties in baseball this season. Berrios has always been an excellent pitcher in home in his career, and if the breaks aren’t quite as wide this year thanks to a yeoman’s work over the road, I’m not going to argue with a 3.32 ERA, 3.60 FIP plus a tiny 1.93 BB/9 clip in the this season. Berrios is coming off of seven innings in a win over the Nationals, so I’ll look for him to find the job done against the White Sox tonight.
C/1B — Yasmani Grandal (MIL) — $3,200 vs. SD
The Brewers will continue their enormous for a postseason berth tonight when they take at the hitter-friendly Miller Park in Milwaukee on the San Diego Padres. The Brewers should have the ability to find some runs throughout the board in this one as he takes the ball for the first time at the big leagues since last July, because they take on right-hander Garrett Richards. There is very little doubt the oft-injured Richards has been a very good MLB pitcher — when healthy — as he owns a career 3.54 ERA and 3.62 FIP, nonetheless Richards has thrown just 9.1 minor league innings this year and most recently posted a 8.10 ERA across 6.2 innings at the High-A level. There is a good chance that the Freestyle reach him so let us catch some Milwaukee exposure, although he will not last long with this one way. The bat has been better against left wing pitching this season, however, Grandal’s figures against righties remain very good using a .207 ISO, .832 OPS, .356 wOBA along with also a 117 wRC+. It has been a huge month of September to this stage because of its veteran backstop as he has submitted an eye-popping .429 ISO, 1.195 OPS, .478 wOBA and also a 197 wRC+. For him to remain hot in a home that is friendly matchup 14, let’s search.
2B — Ketel Marte (ARI) — $3,900 vs. MIA
This was really the final choice of my lineup tonight as I had $4,000 made to invest a second baseman after completing in my stacks, meaning I might have some second baseman on the background, and why not go with the very best choice available in Marte who’s placing up MVP-type production this year in what has transitioned to a breakout year. I actually considered a D-backs stack in this lineup, but Marte will be a one-off since Arizona is a far superior crime against left-handed pitching than righties, and they will face a righty in Pablo Lopez who’s fought on the road this season. The Marte has posted quite similar splits against righties and lefties this season has been best against pitching at home, which is the split he will be in this day. Marte owns a .250 ISO, .975 OPS, .404 wOBA and a 150 wRC+ to the season from right-handed pitchers overall. Against righties at home, Marte has posted a .264 ISO, 1.015 OPS, .419 wOBA and also a 160 wRC+. Not merely will be Marte in his best split , but he is also enjoying the most productive month of his excellent season as he has posted a .358 ISO, 1.167 OPS, .474 wOBA and also a 195 wRC+ at the month of September to this stage. Sign up me all day .
3B — Mike Moustakas (MIL) — $3,300 vs. SD
Packed with our three-man Brewers stack is Moustakas who’s once again with a big season in terms of electricity against right-handed pitching, though he is treated left-handers with plenty of power too, so that I will not be concerned with matchup problems against left-handed replacements when Richards departs this game early — that is a certainty given his small workload this year and extended injury history. The man called Moose enters this one sporting a .283 ISO, .880 OPS, .360 wOBA and 120 wRC+ to the season against right-wing pitching. Against lefties, he’s submitted a .245 ISO, .841 OPS, .348 wOBA along with 112 wRC+. For any reason, Moustakas’ bat as been productive beyond the hitter-friendly confines of Miller Park in Milwaukee, however, the fantastic news is that the raw power remains excellent in the home with a .242 ISO total and an higher .253 mark against right-handed pitching in the home. A frequent theme within this lineup was a month of September, and Moustakas is no exclusion. The slugger has posted a .391 ISO, .986 OPS, .377 wOBA plus also a 131 wrC+ to the month. Together with three homers over the past five games, join me up for the power bat of Moustakas that evening.
SS — Nico Hoerner (CHC) — $3,700 vs. CIN
My primary stack in this lineup is going to function as banged-up Cubs because they accept right-hander Kevin Gausman and the Cincinnati Reds. But while Gausman is going to begin, it’s not clear how long they plan to pitch him for tonight because he’s been used from the bullpen since bringing him off of waivers from the Atlanta Braves. He’s been hit hardest because a starter with a 6.19 ERA over the season in scenarios such as tonight with better luck for a reliever with a 4.02 mark. Nonetheless, the Cubs certainly have something to use tonight despite missing Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo in the starting lineup. It has been a successful start to the livelihood of Nico Hoerner as he has clubbed a pair of homers throughout the first seven games of his big league career and possesses a .379/.438/.655 slash line through the initial 32 plate appearances in the bigs up to now. Interestingly, Hoerner did not hit for much power at the Double-A degree this year he homered only three times and posted a small .116 ISO in 70 games at that level, but he absolutely rocketed through the Cubs’ minor league system because he was the 24th overall pick only over one year ago from the June 2018 draft. Certainly things are expected here and Hoerner has not frustrated.
OF — Ben Zobrist (CHC) — $2,700 vs. CIN
Zobrist are the one leading this Cubs stack tonight off because he gives us a few worth upside in that leadoff spot that is precious. The 38-year-old veteran has overlooked most of the year and appeared in just 36 games to this point as a result of personal issues, and we know that the power is not what it used to be years back as he has only one homer at 133 large league plate appearances on the year and struck just twice in 139 games last season. That saidthe bat is still very much effective since he put together an extremely great .355 wOBA and 123 wRC+ only last season on the rear of a significant walk rate and miniature strikeout rate. The OBP numbers stay strong this year at .368 because of some big 13.5% walk speed which matches his 13.5% strikeout rate. Despite a difficult year which contains a 5.83 ERA, Gausman has really maintained the walks in check at 2.82 BB/9, however I still believe this is really a avenue for Zobrist to get on base and score some runs in this one — bringing us some value from the procedure. There is also the event of Zobrist completely owning Gausman within their background against another. He has gone 8 for 13 (.615) with a homer and four doubles against the veteran right-hander. I think I’ll take that out of the leadoff area tonight.
OF — Nicholas Castellanos (CHC) — $3,700 vs. CIN
Castellanos was a successful hitter in his days with the Detroit Tigers, nevertheless he’s entered a different stratosphere in his own Cubs tenure after being dealt with Chicago in the trade deadline. After posting a .189 ISO and .790 OPS using the Tigers, Castellanos has caught fire with his new team, starring a .354 ISO, 1.070 OPS with hitting on .343 together using the Cubs. He homered 11 occasions with the Tigers this year in 439 plate appearances, but has already homered 15 days with the Cubs in only 175 plate looks. He has also been a device as he has doubled 54 times including 17 occasions with the Cubs in 42 games wherever he’s played this year. The production has been sky-high even of late since he’s gone for 13 (.538) with five doubles, a homer, six runs scored and six RBI over his last 3 games. Is that great? The numbers have also been lights out against the two left and right-handers after that he was mostly a lefty-masher while using the Tigers. Castellanos has also enjoyed success against Gausman as he is 4 to 15 against him (.267), but with two homers and a double, great for a .467 ISO along with also 1.046 OPS inside this matchup. Join me up all day.
OF — Kyle Schwarber (CHC) — $3,200 vs. CIN
Completing our Cubs stack is Schwarber who’s projected to move thanks to the injuries into Rizzo and Baez. Schwarber’s bat certainly fits the profile for a cleanup hitter as he sports some of the finest raw energy . The electricity is powerful against both lefties and righties — which helps for when the remainder of the bullpen enters the one — however, the bat is a lot more effective against righties because he owns a .285 ISO, .851 OPS, .348 wOBA and 113 wRC+ on the year versus righties. He has been an absolute monster in home versus righties as well by which he owns a .312 ISO, .932 OPS, .379 wOBA and 133 wRC+. How about the month of September? Can he be mashing like most of the players within this lineup? The solution is yes. Schwarber has pummeled opposing pitchers to the tune of a .333 ISO, .959 OPS, .386 wOBA along with 138 wRC+ to the entire month, continuing a torrid second half in which he is put together a .351 ISO, .935 OPS, .380 wOBA and 134 wRC+. It’s a little sample, but Schwarber is 1 for 2 with a home run in his career against Gausman. At length, while I had been hesitant to stack from the Reds earlier in the summer because of their bullpen ranking in the top five, that is no longer true because the Reds”pen is tied for 22nd with a 5.00 ERA in the season’s second half. Big hopes for this particular four-man heap tonight.
UTIL — Eric Thames (MIL) — $2,700 vs. SD
It took some time, but I will finally finish my three-man Brewers stack with Thames who attracts some real nice significance to the table contemplating his price and his power — a lot of which comes from right-handed pitching. Thames enters this one tonight wearing a .264 ISO, .874 OPS, .361 wOBA and 121 wRC+ on the season against right-handed pitching. The creation has picked up a couple notches at home as well as Thames has published a .281 ISO, .934 OPS, .385 wOBA and 136 wRC+ over the summer from righties at Miller Park. It has not been terribly productive September for the Thames, but power has remained with a .211 ISO for your month. Below criteria? Yes. However, it’s still a powerful number yet. Thames went 2 for 5 with a double and a run scored against the Cardinals in yesterday’s game, so perhaps a stretch has started. Not only will be the Brewers confronting a pitcher which has not pitched in the big leagues in over a year, but they will also face the league’s 19th-ranked bullpen later, so I enjoy the odds of this three-man stack to put some runs on the board in such a .
