Andre Fabre is under no illusions about the task facing Waldgeist because he prepares to renew rivalry with all the Enable in the next month’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
The pair have met three times together with Waldgeist finishing behind Enable in the past year’s Arc, at the Breeders’ Cup and also at the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.
The Enable of john Gosden is a favourite to become the first horse in history to win a third Arc in ParisLongchamp on October 6, also maybe not because gold struck in 2006, although a race Fabre has claimed on a seven occasions.
Waldgeist set himself up for another tilt at the premier middle-distance prize of Europe on Sunday with a sleek success in the Prix Foy, but he’ll face sterner contest in only under three months’ time.
“He did all right,” said Fabre.
“The idea was to have an extremely smooth race without being overly challenging and he had it, therefore there’s little else to say.
“It was just what we wanted prior to the Arc. Obviously he will come up against Enable and what do we say about her? She will be somewhat tough to beat if Enable runs into her level of shape in the Arc afterward.
“We’ve run from her three times and she’s won each of them. Can we beat on her? I don’t understand, it’s the exact same for everyone.
“After the Arc he’ll probably go to the Breeders’ Cup .”
