After the attracted between Dublin and Kerry, the Sky Sports pundits pondered when the Kingdom had missed the chance.
Dublin deserve credit. It shows you their fitness levels, their hunger. The match went from them.
You’ve got to give Kerry credit. It was left by everybody out there. We had a good deal of concerns coming to the game. Tadhg Morley held Paul Mannion Tom O’Sullivan held Con O’Callaghan to a single point.
Up the other end, Se??n O’Shea settled us down every time we had it. Twice, Hill 16 began singing’Come on you boys in blue’, and O’Shea kicked out a free within the pub, just to say’lads, relax’.
I can’t say enough about him.
Can Kerry leave it ? You can look it both way. Those Kerry gamers will feel a bit disappointed they did not pull it when they were down four points at half-time. But they’ll get enormous impression. They will come up to Croke Park in a couple of weeks, stating’we could do so’.
Kerry would have walked away with it, if they’d taken their chances in the first half. So they will say -‘just like we did two weeks 16, we will need to start’.
They’re likely to get the confidence they can take action. Whereas the drawn match, a lot of these men that are young, there was much unknown.
Kerry went against the best team in the nation, who were down to 14 men for 35 minutes. In Croke Park, it’s a significant pitch. You might get away with this at a number of the venues that are regional, but within this stadium Kerry will not get a chance.
But they’ll take confidence also.
We talked before the match – would Kerry handle the Dublin onslaught about it? It did not really come. They compelled a response and moved through the gears.
I believe they’re likely to get better and better. After getting expertise in 7, they are. Within an All-Ireland final, setting it up into the ideal team.
That is the task for Peter Keane – can he receive a response and pull those fellas off? The template is not there. Mayo did it three years back. They came the next moment back with gusto. They learned took them in open battle and it discommoded Dublin. It has been completed by mayo. Kerry have done it .
They were taken by kerry where they have not been since they played Mayo [at 2017]. They’re tipping away through Leinster, winning games in the Super 8s.
All of a sudden, there was a response from them.
The trademark of a team that is excellent is how they respond to adversity.
But today everyone thinks Kerry have had their chance. That narrative will match them going into the replay.
There were signs of complacency we were waiting on for years, which was evident from the start. We did not believe the achievement of five in a row would impact them.
But I think Dublin showed remarkable heart – which was a match they could have dropped so easily. However, they hung in there.
You would expect a response from Con O’Callaghan the Following Day, from Paul Mannion, Brian Fenton and James McCarthy too.
From my perspective, Kerry will probably be disappointed. They had an opportunity to end the’drive for five’ and it wasn’t taken by them.
