Aidan OBrien senses 10 furlongs and gentle earth may prove perfect conditions for Magical from the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot.
The flexible filly is bidding for wins British Champions Day, who won the Mares & Fillies race – after which she went all guns blazing to Empower at the Breeders Cup.
Magical has been busy and discovered Permit a tough nut to crack on more than one occasion – but victories in Irish Champion Stakes and the Tattersalls Gold Cup have noticed her add to her Group One haul.
She finished fifth at the month Prix de lArc de Triomphe, the first time – in nine rebounds outings – which shes been out of the initial two because the race this past year.
OBrien said:Shes an remarkable filly. Trips are run over by her – all floor comes to her, and she comes from her races.
Obviously she conducted from the Arc, which wasnt that long ago. But she seems to be in good shape, and we are excited about running .
We think on soft earth, 10 furlongs is probably her excursion. She must be quite comfortable at it on this floor anyhow.
OBrien also conducts I Can Fly – agonisingly beaten from the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes last year, but with just a triumph at Dundalk to display for her attempts.
We believe I Can Fly might like the floor, explained OBrien.
Her very best run came this time this past year over a mile on tender ground, but shes form over a mile and a quarter also. She is in good form too.
Theres been lots of cash for William Haggas Addeybb this week but shifting to the inner hurdles track may well not be in favour of their mud-lover.
Haggas explained:We are thrilled the race is about and were thrilled to be participating in Obviously we hope it rains nonstop from now before the race!
Magical is a high-class filly, and he has all on to conquer her. Hes got a bit but he is a smart horse once the floor is soft.
Were going to the race new, but he will most likely will have to be if he is likely to win.
He has had a fantastic preparation and that he had a great gallop at Newmarket last week, that will have profited him.
I would say hes a long-shot on form, but when he gets his terms he could encounter it.
Deirdre was a surprise winner of the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood – and to prove was no fluke, she looked unlucky behind Magical in the Irish Champion Stakes.
Yoshitake Hashida, assistant trainer to Mitsuru Hashida, said:She seems in very good shape. She emerged from the Irish Champion without any problems at all – thus far, so great.
She was unfortunate at Leopardstown, also I think the most disappointed person was Oisin Murphy. It is a day for Oisin, since he will be verified as the winner jockey – that is terrific.
They have moved the race to the inside monitor, which will be great. I believe thats the principal reason we have decided to operate on Champions Day, instead of going to the Breeders Cup or something like this.
We think she is in much better state than she was at (Royal) Ascot – we all think she is in very top condition today.
We first met Magical in the Prince of Waless Stakes and got a little closer to her at the Irish Champion. Whereas another very great race in France has conduct Weve had a wonderful break since the Irish Champion.
We would prefer faster floor, but I expect she could run a good race.
Having come so close in a lot of Group Ones, John Gosdens Coronet seemed destined to not win one – but she struck her duck in her penultimate start in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, then followed up in the Prix Jean Romanet next time out.
She will head following that to the paddocks – lose, win or draw.
We waited all the time to get a Group One – and shes won two! Said Richard Evans, that manages owners of Coronet, Denford Stud.
Its over we could have wished for – and that is her very last run.
We are just hopeful. She will not mind soft ground – she would not need it thick, but shes fine on soft.
Obviously Mr Haggas horse (Addeybb) will adore the floor, and thats currently in there, but we would just be delighted to be in the framework – a win could be outstanding.
We were only a length behind Magical last calendar year, and hopefully theyll be close again, but I think Magical and Mr Haggas would be both to conquer – and there may be some surprise packages.
A win would be excellent and a excellent way to finish her racing career. Shell be new – she hasnt run since winning in France, therefore it may come soon, and ran from the Arc.
The good ones dont come along often, and it was fine that the choice to stay in training was rewarded
