A Barnsley supporter expired while watching Wednesday nights Championship match against Derby at the club Oakwell and local police have announced.
66, jeffrey Wroe, suffered a cardiac arrest and he could not be restored , despite being treated with the emergency services.
A club statement read:Barnsley Football Club are profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of a supporter at Wednesday nights fixture from Derby County.
Sixty-six-year-old Jeffrey Wroe was handled with emergency services at Oakwell near the conclusion of the game, but devastatingly, was unable to be revived.
The team has been liaising with and can continue to support both the family members and friends of Mr Wroe through this exceptionally difficult time, whilst requesting their privacy be admired.
Derby added on Twitter:Derby County Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the information and offers its condolences to the family and friends of Jeffrey Wroe.
South Yorkshire Police said in a statement:Officers were alerted at 9.24pm to a man in cardiac arrest in the Barnsley vs Derby game at Oakwell.
Despite the very best efforts of the emergency services the guy died.
Barnsley play with their next match off at Preston on Saturday, and attracted on the match 2-2.
