A Barnsley supporter expired while watching Wednesday nights Championship game against Derby at Oakwell, the team and police have announced.
66, jeffrey Wroe, suffered a cardiac arrest near the close of the game and he couldnt be revived never being handled with the emergency services.
A club statement read:Barnsley Football Club are deeply saddened to learn of the departure of a supporter at Wednesday nights fixture from Derby County.
Sixty-six-year-old Jeffrey Wroe was treated by emergency services in Oakwell towards the close of the game, however devastatingly, was unable to be revived.
The club was liaising with and will definitely continue to encourage both the family and friends of Mr Wroe during this exceptionally difficult time, even whilst requesting their privacy to be honored.
Derby added Twitter:Derby County Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the information and offers its condolences to the family and friends of Jeffrey Wroe.
South Yorkshire Police said in a statement:Physicians were alerted at 9.24pm to some man in cardiac arrest in the Barnsley vs Derby game at Oakwell.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services the guy died.
Barnsley play with off their next game in Preston on Saturday, and drew the game 2-2.
