A Barnsley supporter died while watching Wednesday nights Championship match against Derby in the club, Oakwell and police have announced.
66, jeffrey Wroe, suffered a cardiac arrest to the close of the game and he could not be revived despite being treated with the emergency services.
A club statement read:Barnsley Football Club are deeply saddened to learn of the departure of a supporter in Wednesday nights fixture against Derby County.
Sixty-six-year-old Jeffrey Wroe was handled with emergency services at Oakwell near the close of the match, but devastatingly, was not able to be restored.
The club has been liaising with and can definitely continue to support the family and friends of Mr Wroe through this exceptionally difficult time, whilst asking for their privacy be admired.
Derby added on Twitter:Derby County Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the news and offers its condolences to the family members and friends of Jeffrey Wroe.
South Yorkshire Police said in a statement:Physicians were stabbed 9.24pm to a person in cardiac arrest in the Barnsley vs Derby match at Oakwell.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services that the guy died.
Barnsley play away their next game at Preston, and attracted the match 2-2.
