Australia head coach Michael Cheika insists that his side will enter their World Cup quarter-final from England devoid of fear after promising assault.
Cheika will go up against his former team-mate Eddie Jones as the losing coach is predicted to depart should they suffer defeat at the showdown, for what’s likely to be the final time in their roles.
Australia are underdogs, not least because of the losing streak against Jones’ England, however, Cheika insists they’ll play with no restraint.
“I always mention, but no one appears to think me, my attention is on just Australia, the type of match we can bring and how we can strike the resistance whether that is with all the ball or with no,” Cheika stated.
“Not considering how we’re going to safeguard against the resistance and that which they will attack us with. Then it will become a battle of will, that wishes to strike more?
“When I speak about attack I’m not just speaking about with the ball, I’m speaking about who would like to attack more.
“We are almost I assume dead in that way because the panic inside us is lifeless. We’re not scared to move there and get it done so it’s going to be a great game.”
As sparring spouses as coaches, for their history, Jones and Cheika have engaged in a joint charm offensive.
Cheika doesn’t considers Jones’ claim that his choice to drop George Ford in favour of Henry Slade in order to England’s midfield is due to the threat of Wallabies centre Samu Kerevi.
“Most of the stuff is, what’s the word for this? Fake news? Just like’I changed this because this really is happening’,” Cheika stated.
“Mate, none of us are providing our tactics in real life and we would be mad when we did. If he was actually telling me that he’s altering the thing because of this… well I’m not likely to visit my blokes and say’well, he changed everything for you guys’.
“It’s irrelevant to us, that things, it is just like develop and prepare yourself and perform what’s in front of you.
“It doesn’t matter, as long as you understand precisely what you want to get and you go out and get it”
