Usman Khawaja has been left from Australia’s 12-man team with this week’s fourth Ashes Test against England at Old Trafford since paceman Mitchell Starc is remembered.
Steve Smith replenishes Khawaja, who batted at number three during the series but managed an average of merely 20.33 from his six innings.
Smith missed the third Test at Headingley.
His place is kept by marnus Labuschagne .
Starc, who was the leading wicket taker at the World Cup earlier this season, impressed Australia’s tour game carrying seven wickets. He is Very Likely to contend with Peter Siddle for a place at the attack, with James Pattinson rested.
When they win either of the last two Tests, although holders Australia will retain the Ashes the five-match show is level at 1-1 after England’s epic one-wicket victory at Headingley.
The Test starts on Wednesday.
