Steven Gerrard has proposed Ryan Kent could be missing for a couple of months — which could see long-term Jamie Murphy’s return sooner instead of later.
Before coming off with a hamstring injury kent lasted only 41 moments on Saturday.
Murphy has been out since sustaining a knee injury against Kilmarnock last August but Kent’s lack and Jordan Jones’ knee problem have left Rangers brief of choices out wide ahead of a fixture program which begins with Thursday’s Europa League clash against Feyenoord.
Gerrard has emphasized the significance of handling Brandon Barker carefully after he scored his first goal for the team against Livingston in the weekend, having substituted Kent just before half-time, and he is currently considering bringing back Murphy to the fold in the future.
“What we’ve tried to do here is build a squad – not just a team,” he told the club’s official website. “So it’s that realisation that if you’re not in the XI you have to be ready to come on by the side, and if you are away from the squad, then be compelling in practice to enter the 18.
“That is what we want and we believe will bring out the best in everyone really. We endured an injury to Ryan Kent and suffered an accident to Jordan Jones, so Brandon made and arrived.
“We just have to be cautious with Brandon now that we do not almost think he will play every game now – we need to manage him in the ideal way too.”
Gerrard added:”Additionally, it can force us push Jamie Murphy forwards somewhat faster to give us another option as we will be without Jordan Jones for probably another three to four weeks and it looks like Ryan will be a couple of weeks as well, thus we might have to push Jamie a bit faster.
“I think he is prepared to become a part of the 18, but I’m not sure he will be prepared to go in and begin games in series.
“He is certainly training very well, and I believe in the previous week to 10 days, it is possible to observe a few of his strength coming back, therefore he’s definitely prepared to contribute, but I’ll need to manage his minutes that suit him and be patient with him as well.”
