South Africa was headed by A hat-trick of tries from Makazole Mapimpi to a victory over Japan on Friday in their final World Cup warm-up game, gaining revenge for defeat three decades back and laying down a tournament marker.
Winger Cheslin Kolbe started the scoring with a fantastic conclusion about seven minutes, until Mapimpi ran in two easy tries from the other flank since the Springboks assembled a 22-0 lead at half-time in Kumagaya.
Further attempts from Mapimpi along with Kolbe either side of Kotaro Matsushima’s consolation along with a final flourish from Herschel Jantjies secured victory for South Africa and helped soothe Japans’ memory famed win in the 2015 World Cup.
Before South Africa start their campaign against reigning champions New Zealand a day 29, japan must search for advancement in their World Cup opener.
