Michael Chiesa’s Lawsuit Against Conor McGregor Revealed
The UFC 223 bus episode is not in the rear-view mirror just yet for Conor McGregor. The Irish celebrity was sued by Michael Chiesa after he was injured in the dolly-throwing incident back at UFC 223, and we have details of this litigation. TMZ has been the first to report the particulars of the lawsuit in a movie that you are able to watch at the conclusion of the article.
According to the TMZ report, Chiesa is claiming that the UFC 223 dolly incident was a publicity stunt on the part of McGregor, and now Chiesa desires all of McGregor’s profits from his mega fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov in UFC 229. According to the litigation, the”Son of Sam” law in New York applies to this incident, where someone convicted of a crime can’t utilize that crime to profit. According to the lawsuit, Chiesa believes McGregor profited in the UFC 223 episode, partially because it drew more attention to the card, and because the UFC used footage of the bus attack to promote the McGregor vs. Nurmagomedov fight at UFC 229. Remember the UFC 229 pay-per-view has been the largest selling PPV the UFC has done, therefore McGregor made countless dollars for that fight, and Chiesa needs a piece of the pie.
Can Chiesa’s lawsuit be successful? Who knows now, and it’s possible this is eventually settled out of court. But obviously Chiesa was given legal advice to carry this as far as he could go and he’ll try and make some money from it, and it’s difficult to blame him believing he was legitimately injured in the bus attack. So far, fans and media have laughed off Chiesa’s suit. But everybody should recall Chiesa received facial cuts in the bus attack that forced him off the card. He later fought at UFC 226 and lost by submssion into Anthony Pettis, and he should feel like he got the raw end of the offer. Chiesa is next scheduled to confront Carlos Condit at the UFC 232 card, but using this lawsuit in mind you need to wonder if it is going to affect him.
As for McGregor, he’s still dealing with the Nevada Athletic Commission in relation to this UFC 229 episode where Nurmagomedov jumped through the fence. It’s been rumored McGregor plans to fight in MMA again in 2019, but till we see what kind of sanction he’ll get for UFC 229 it’s difficult to say exactly when he’ll compete , and contrary to who. The bus attack obviously didn’t hurt McGregor’s stock as much as it hurt some of the other fighters daily, such as Rose Namajunas, that says the bus attack emotionally scarred her and that hasn’t fought because UFC 223. While McGregor has made millions since then, other fighters that day including Ray Borg were severely affected by the episode, and it’s difficult to blame people who were hurt in the attack to attempt to sue McGregor and determine what happens in the courts.
