Celebrating like the”Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels and sacking like just one other Washington Redskins participant before him, Ryan Kerrigan has no plans for slowing down anytime soon.
His daughter Lincoln was welcomed into the world in March, Even though 31 wills turn in August and becoming a dad has motivated Kerrigan to elongate his livelihood.
“I want my daughter and more future children to have the ability to remember some aspect of my soccer career,” Kerrigan told the Rundown podcast via the team website. “I don’t want them hearing me speak about football and like,’Oh, dad’s living in the past, like he probably wasn’t even very good.’
“I need them to have the ability to experience a lot of the pleasure that comes with being a professional soccer player and don’t forget the experiences they have.”

No signs of a slowed step have hindered Kerrigan however, as he’s racked up double-digit sacks in three consecutive seasons — and four of the last five — together with three straight Pro Bowl selections. A four-time Pro Bowler, Kerrigan’s 84.5 sacks are second on Washington’s all-time record behind Dexter Manley’s 91.0.
As a newcomer in 2011 after Washington drafted him in the first round, Kerrigan submitted 7.5 sacks. That has stood so if his numbers are preserved, he will eclipse Manley this season.
“I’ll never take any bag for granted since they’re all hard to grasp,” Kerrigan said. “But yeah, we will cross that bridge when it comes.”
Since 2014, a little bit of bend and flash has followed Kerrigan’s sacks. Both biceps flexed, one knee bent, the leg outstretched, it’s a pose connected with a World Wrestling Entertainment star Michaels and Hall of Famer. It is as Kerrigan has notched 13 sacks in each of the two seasons, a celebration that’s been called upon a lot.
“It just caught on like wildfire,” Kerrigan said. “I was a Shawn Michaels fan before and it was insane how quickly it turned into a thing.”
Observing such as HBK is going to be a thing for many more sacks, if Kerrigan’s programs fall in line.
