Raheem Sterling has called on society to”wake up” and realise footballers are”human beings just doing their jobs” as players are still abused.
A range of players are targeted on the internet following lost this year to penalties.
Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku was also abused by Cagliari buffs during a Serie A match last week, and Sterling says things should change.
He told Sky Sports News:”It’s simple to say what happens next but there is a whole great deal of folks behind a computer monitor. Those are those that are unsatisfactory and believe they can get away with stuff like this.
“We are in 2019 and we’re still talking about this. I can’t say I have the response but.
“The people doing it need to wake up and understand it’s a new age and discrimination isn’t something anyone should face.
“We will need to develop as a society and realize we are just out here in our tasks. We are human beings and we all have feelings.
“It’s a touchy issue but I can not tell you I have the exact answer. But as a society we all will need to perform better and appreciate each other more.”
Sterling called for Montenegro to become given a stadium ban after he had been one of several England players to be racially abused during the team’s win there last season, and has been vocal in calling out racism throughout his profession.
Speaking before England’s 4-0 win over Bulgaria on Saturday, Marcus Rashford called to do more to prevent their customers abusing others online.
“For me personally, it’s too simple to do whatever you like on the world wide web,” Rashford stated. “Any people today could proceed and make stories and write what we want under anybody’s articles and no one would ever know.
“The remedy is easy to figure out – if you had to show identification to create an account which means everybody can only have one account.
“For me personally, there’s hundreds of thousands of people who use my title on social networking and they’re able to write what they enjoy.
“But people are speaking out and people are listening so hopefully we could put it .”
